2 months in to In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust and I can say that summer has been in full effect leaving little time for reading, especially at the level that this novel demands.
Things I’ve learned so far:
🐢 Slow and steady wins the race. After some research and exploration on how to approach the book, we’ve decided to go with the most recommended approach: 5-10 pages per reading session. This takes dedication and also means the project will last at least 11 months before we finish the book.
👯♀️Buddy reading this has been helpful to stay on track and also to discuss what has happened in real time. I would not want to undertake this alone.
⏳While I consider myself I rather quick reader, this book has really made me slow down and take my time. I have been annotating and pausing often as I read to think about what’s been written. To be fair, there have been a few paragraphs that I’ve reread because I zoned out or got a bit lost in the long descriptions.
Any advice for those who have tackled Proust before or perhaps James Joyce’s « Ulysses »?
Les Bookworms will be back at la rentrée until then we will be soaking up all the summer vibes – heatwaves and all!
À bientôt !
