Le roman commence pendant l’occupation de l’Alsace-Lorraine par les Prussiens, et suit deux orphelins qui commence un voyage à Marseille pour trouver leur oncle. Pendant leur voyage, ils rencontrent des travailleurs dévoués et gentils qui les enseignent, les morales français, l’importance de l’éducation et plus important la patrie.

Overview

The Prussians have invaded and conquered Alsace-Lorraine and two orphaned boys begin a journey to the South to find their uncle. At each stop along the way, they discover new towns, gentle and hardworking people and essential traits of a good french citizen. They eventually establish a farm incorporating all the knowledge they’ve gained over their journey. It is a novel to teach and explain French morality, civic duty and inspire patriotism.

Ce livre est un travelogue par une écrivaine anglaise – Felicity Cloake. Elle fait un tour de France personnel. Elle passe pas mal du temps toute seule pendant son voyage mais de temps en temps, elle est accompagnée par ses amis. Il y a plusieurs de moments bas et hauts pendant son séjour. Elle voyage gastronomiquement avec un désir de découvrir la nourriture française où les recettes célèbres viennent. Elle inclut des recettes pour les lecteurs d’essayer à la fin de chaque chapitre !
